  1. Always Tell a Story Through Text or Video

The name of the game is sales, and people must know within a second or two of landing on your site exactly what you are selling. If it’s vague, unclear or hidden behind a lot of wordage you`ll have lost their interest. You lose their interest and you lose the sale which is going to completely ruin your bottom line.

You have to be clear and bold with product placement. Entice the reader through blocks of text or Demonstration videos, and it`s important to be creative so you come up with unique ways to sell and market your product.

A strategically placed demonstration video can add significant revenue to your monthly income. For example, despite the 3-minute length of their video, the Crazy Egg video has brought in an additional 21, 000 dollars per month because of the way they market to their customers and/or visitors.

Telling your story is vital to the sale. People must understand what service you are providing, and what you have to offer. We recommend using personal accounts, and testimonials which shows potential customers the opportunity to understand the product. I also give them examples of my own personal experience because when people can relate to your own personal situations, they are more likely to see the value in the product or service you are offering.

The data doesn’t lie. 37 out of 119 customers surveyed commented that they only became customers after reading personal stories. This alone shows the huge effect telling stories can have on your bottom line.

Storytelling is a craft and you must master this craft to achieve results. You can use customer feedback to help build the foundations of your story. A survey asking customers what they know of your company, and how they would describe what you do is a very good place to start if you are just beginning the process.

Marketing involves understanding your customer and how they think. Not all people are visiting your site with the intention to buy but all visitors CAN become potential customers if use a few simple strategies.

How you market your product is crucial in attracting attention but even more important is how you re-market your

product and keep someone’s attention long after they have left your site. Consumers are always enticed by free information kits or coupons. Whether you are selling a service or a product, the possibility of getting a bonus for free is often very appealing to potential customers. These kits are generally sent out via email which can come attached with a weekly subscription to a product newsletter. This allows your product to remain in the customer’s consciousness and build awareness on a consistent basis.

Building trusting and lasting relationships with your customers is the ultimate goal and you can do this by creating a series of at least 7 emails called follow-sequence which will highlight the product or service in a new and unique manner. Often it is time and information that will convince a customer to buy and the efficiency of an email strand can effectively accomplish this feat. Head over to your competitor, and you’ll see how they have effectively put together an information kit for their readers. I would focus on those which have been around a long-time so you can learn from the best in the industry.

Re-marketing allows you to have an online presence in a digital era. Upon entering your site, visitors will be pixeled with a cookie which simply means that your advertisements will pop up on their browsing screen thus reminding them again of the services you offer. The ingenious part of this is that there already exists an interest so it’s just a matter of keeping the awareness alive. Many marketing networks now offer affordable remarketing package. Do a quick search in Google to find some which you’ll find very attractive.

The business world is evolving quickly and so is the face of marketing. Push your business into the next stratosphere by adopting a few key strategies and you’ll be well on your way!

  1. Focus on What’s Important

The bottom line in marketing is that you are only as strong as the processes you employ so it’s important to take the time to create a solid marketing initiative. Consistently measure to test out new strategies, and you’ll discover where you need to make changes. It’s important to mention that online blogging, and marketing is always about finding out what works. This means you’ll have to track data so you can find ways to optimize at a later time. Flaws and weaknesses are to be expected but it’s the constant revision, and adjustments that will help add profitability to your business.

The online marketing world has a lot of competition, and those looking to use any tactic to acquire business.  You have to embrace the competition. A strategy may be successful for a short term and then others may catch on. This is all part of the marketing game, and you must expect this so you can refresh your approach at regular intervals. Remember, I mentioned above how tracking your results is very important because it helps you keep a close eye on your competition. It also helps you determine what’s been working, and what needs to be changed.

Lastly it’s important to create a diverse portfolio. Putting your eggs in more than one basket allows multiple channels to generate revenue as each drives a percentage of your overall profit. Marketing your business through a variety of different outlets increases the chances that a wide demographic will be exposed to the services and/or products you provide.

Focus on what’s truly important; the marketing process. Don’t be afraid to be creative, and innovative in your approach and your business will reap the rewards.

  1. Call-To-Actions Matter – Time to Maximize

The goal of a Call-to-Action Button is to convert browsers into buyers. Call-to-Action buttons include tactics such as free consultations, appointments or offers of downloadable e-books.  All of these are designed to draw the customer in when they click on the icon. The promise of free products, and services increases the possibility that somewhere down the road browsers to the site might become valued customers to the business.

To get a good idea of the call-to-actions available, especially those which perform, I like to visit competitor blogs to see how they are doing things. Remember, some have been in the industry for a long time so have tested out many of the methods.

Here’s how to design effective call-to-action buttons:

Location, color and button placement are the first things that you need to consider when designing your Call to Action Buttons. You want to ensure they are in a place where they can be seen for optimal conversions. If they can’t be seen then we can conclude they won’t be clicked.

Consumers respond in different ways to color, for example, QuickSprout.com mentioned how SAP software solutions increased their conversion rate by over 32% by employing the color orange in their Call-to- Action Button. It comes down to trial, and error when deciding on the right color fit for your site. This doesn’t mean orange will work for you, but means color does make a huge difference. I encourage you try different ones until you find a combination that works

The location of your call-to-action Button is also crucial. Some consumers prefer to read your story and understand what you are offering before visiting other links. Placing your button below the fold may actually be a more effective tactic.  However,

This can only be taken on a case by case basis so it is necessary to test different locations within your landing pages. Remember, again, it all comes down to testing everything…right?

White space around your call-to-action button allows it to be more visible, and thus increase the probability that consumers will click on it. Providing credit card symbols, trust symbols or placing product logos around your Call-To-Action Button can help increase customer satisfaction and convert browsers to buyers.

Here are some additional tips to follow going forward.

Special Effects, Unique Slogans and Ingenious Exit Call to Action Buttons can be very effective customer conversion techniques. Many people I know have added flash to some of their buttons because this helps them stand out when visitors are on your page.

Unique slogans such as “Show me my Heat-map” are creative ways to excite customers to click on your call-to-action button. For example, CrazyEgg.com who show’s bloggers their heat-map increased CTR by 20% by simply employing a button flashing with this text – “Show me my Heat-map”. They tested this strategy, and it had enormous results when optimized so they continue to implement it till today.

Designing effective call-to-action buttons is the key, and over the year’s businesses have used psychology and creativity to harness untapped markets. Amazingly enough, utilizing a “don’t click” button can actually entice people into clicking on that button. Trust me, I have fell victim to this trick when I have been on a niche relevant blog.

Knowing human psychology can help you market your service in creative and exciting ways. We all know how frustrating it is to wait in a long line to get into our favorite night spot only to discover the bar is empty. It’s awesome how call-to-action buttons, and advertisements which read “SOLD OUT” can actually generate interest in your product as the perception of desirability is what consumers are responding to. It’s all about enticing the reader, and giving them the idea that they might miss out on a cool opportunity if they wait too long.

Utilize a variety of techniques and make sure you are constantly measuring your success rate. Call-to-Action buttons can be very effective conversion tools when used properly, but the process always remains the same. Create a strategy, measure your successes and make necessary adjustments on a regular basis. Persistence and consistency will drive your business to the next level if you take into consideration a few of these helpful hints, and put them into action!

Important 4 reasons why many people fail in marketing.

I’ve read a lot of posts articles on this topic and think this content has something important to say.

Most people that try online marketing will fail (when it comes to making money, 90% fail). That’s just the facts, man. (post by  Brendan Mace)

The GOOD NEWS is that new marketers fail for predictable reasons. If you can avoid those reasons, you can be successful online.

And that’s where this blog post comes in.

Ok… So here goes.

This post is going to be straight to the point. No sugar coating.

You might agree with me about the wisdom below. If not, move on to destination where 90% of work is designed for you.

Let’s get started…

Reason #1 = You Don’t Have a Website

There are loads of tools and courses out there that brag about not needing a website or hosting. I want you to know that they’re LYING to you. It’s profitable to tell people that something is easy. It’s not profitable to tell people that something takes a bit of work.

That’s why you won’t find a bunch of marketers telling you to get a website running.

They don’t care.

But let me ask you this…

Have you ever heard of a single person making a living online WITHOUT a website?

It just doesn’t happen.

I’ve been in the marketing business for over 8 years now, and I can’t think of a SINGLE example.

There are many reasons to build your own website. There’s not even one reason to put this step off.

You might need a website to:

  • Host a landing page
  • Create a blog
  • Set up niche sites
  • Be the go-to-guy

At the end of the day, everything starts and ends with a website.

Get one ASAP.

Reason #2 – You’re Not Helping People

I’m an email marketer.

You probably know that, and have subscribed to my email list before.

There’s always one thing I tell people that SHOCKS them.

I’m about to share it with you, so keep your shorts clean.

My autoresponder sequence contains 210+ emails.

This is also known as the “follow-up series” and they are the messages that subscribers get after opting in.

That’s not the shocking part yet, although over 200 is a lot.

The shocking part is when I tell people which email makes the most money.

When you help people make money online, they’ll reward you with loyalty for life.

Lots of times it takes just a couple minutes to answer someone’s question. And then shortly after, they’ll inquire about my coaching or buy things through my affiliate links.

I even get subscribers that email me because they want to give me the commission for a purchase.

You will probably underestimate the power of helping. 

It’s not your fault. You see wantrapreneur jokers all day long trying to make a quick buck by slamming links down your throat. The reality is that people buy from real people (or brands) they know and trust.

Start helping people.

Even something as simple as learning how to set up web hosting can make you hundreds or thousands per month.

Did you know that HostGator pays affiliates up to $125 per hosting sale?

That means that you could help somebody set up hosting for about 10 minutes, and end up making a smooth $125 commission.

Talk about a good income per hour.

Reason #3 – You’re Jumping Instead of Fine-Tuning

This is a really big one. The truth

And I did it in the beginning as well. The results were devastating.

When you learn how to do something new online, the instinct is to keep looking for something else.

There are a couple reasons for this behaviour, but the main one is that a new strategy is not going to be successful right away.

Rome wasn’t built in a day. Your online business won’t be either.

Whether your thing is list building, blogging or creating niche sites.

The key is to pick something, and then stick with it.

I’m a list builder.

Like every other email marketer, I learned the biz from scratch.

When I started list building a couple years ago, I used to lose my shirt.

I’d set up a funnel, buy some traffic and LOSE money.

It sounds terrible, right?

Well within three months, I was able to “fine-tune” and tweak things to make a profit.

Most of us know that if you can make a profit in list building — it’s game over.

If for every $1 you spend, you make $2. Well, you can build an unlimited subscriber list on near autopilot. But you’re not going to make it to that point overnight.

It’s the little things that make the BIG DIFFERENCE

I’ll bet you don’t hear that everyday.

Here’s an example.

In Aweber, there’s an option to set up where to redirect new subscribers.

I always tell new students that here’s your opportunity to make back your ad spend.

So the most common choice is either to use a “thank you page” or send to an “instant offer”

My preference is to the latter.

But a common mistake that most people make is they set up the “Thank You Page” option, but ignore the “Already Subscribed” feature.

Now this isn’t a HUGE deal.

But not changing the “Already Subscribed” page is leaving money on the table.

It’s small tweaks like these that make the difference between making money and LOSING IT.

Over time, you should be able to tweak ONE asset enough to make a profit.

Focus on that. Don’t switch to something else.

Reason #4 – Information Overload

We live in an information age, and it’s spoiling your road to success.

Make no mistake. This is a problem.

Seth GodinSeth Godin said it years ago “Marketers are all liars”

Now maybe not ALL OF THEM are dishonest. But most will be sharing marketing “secrets” that are unused for a reason.

Remember that most people don’t make money online. But it’s profitable for business to pretend that you’re the man.

And to do that, you need to teach people.

The dangerous part is when unsuccessful marketers are telling you how to run a business.

If it didn’t work for them, it’s not going to work for you.

Yes, you should help people. I made a strong case for that in reason #2. But please people limit your help to things that you actually know about.

Anybody with half an hour on their hands could learn how to set up hosting.

Trying to tell somebody how to make $1,5xx.42 in the next 32 seconds is not something you learn in a day. Heck, it’s not something most learn in a lifetime.

The problem is that this information overload is inevitable.

You should only listen to advice from a mentor that you know you can trust.

It’s not rocket science. But it doesn’t include fluff or falsehoods either.

Whatever you do, make sure that you learn from someone that knows what they are talking about.

Otherwise you could waste years copying wantrapreneurs pretending to hold the “one secret” to owning lambo’s and expensive watches. And maybe even become one yourself.

Wrapping it Up

You may think you already know how to make money online.

Heck, you might even have made a buck or two.

You will not change your life until you stop these mistakes.

To be clear, these 4 reasons are common. They affect most us, and they even messed with me in the beginning. I wasted years moving around shiny new methods. Only to find out that I wasn’t going to get anywhere until I took action from someone that knows their stuff.

If you are serious about building a business online blogging is an essential tool.

As a new blogger, I’m struggling with some things I wasn’t told ahead of time. Some of them held me back and some things, like finding my voice is an ongoing process.

Here are 5 things no one told me about blogging.

1 Don’t Fear Competition

With blogs and bloggers numbering in the millions, starting a blog is intimidating.

WPVirtuoso estimates there are over 152 million blogs! (Source: WPVirtuoso How Many Blogs Are on the Internet) The same article states that: ” a new blog is created somewhere in the world every half a second.”

Are you ready to run for the hills?

However, if you have something unique to say or a special expertise, or you’re especially good at interviewing experts, either one or both of these avenues might be right for you.

 

The important thing to remember is you are not competing with every single one of those blogs.

2 No Expertise? You Can be a Reporter

How to Steal Like and ArtistMany people online appreciate those who can report on what is going on in their niche. The sheer volume of content makes it impossible to be aware critical information they need to find success. Therefore, in the role of a reporter, you can create valuable content for your audience.

Google Search is your best friend in this role. Searching for articles, new, forums on the topic you report on will give you more material that you could ever use.

It’s not about copy that information, but rewriting it to suit your style, or repurposing the content. For example, you could take an article and make an infographic from the information.

This is a great way to build a large following, especially if you put your own unique slant and personality into your writing.

If you are worried about copyright issues doing this I recommend a book, How to Steal Like an Artist. It’s a short fun book to read and show why and how to steal like an artist.

3 Profitability Takes Time

Blog logoIf you plan to use your blog as your primary source of income then patience and persistence is a virtue.

I’d recommend you read a couple of blogs about blogging to help you understand the ins and outs of making money as a blogger.

Try: Copyblogger or Blogging Basics 101

You’ll need time to build a following and get subscribers, which is why it’s best to start blogging part-time while you do something else for income.

But if you find the right topic – and most importantly, you find your tribe – then it is possible to build up to a very decent 5 and even 6 figure income.
However, if there are other uses for a blog.

Either way as an internet marketer a blog is one of your best relationship building tools.

4 Find Your Voice

So why do you need to find your voice?

You don’t want to sound like everyone else, nor do you want to appeal to every person out there.

First, when you have your own unique voice, people have a reason to like you. You’re authentic, and you have something to say. Don’t be afraid to state your opinions and back them with facts. This will cause your tribe to gravitate to you as you build more and more rapport with them.

Second, if you try to appeal to everyone, you will appeal to no one.

Choose your perfect reader and then speak to this person.

For example, if your topic is motorcycles, you wouldn’t want to appeal to everyone who has a motorcycle, doesn’t have a motorcycle, likes motorcycles and even doesn’t like motorcycles.

But if you speak to the 55-year-old dentist who rides his Harley Davidson on weekends, then you’ve narrowed your niche to professionals on Harleys. And while this excludes most everyone else, it makes those professionals on Harleys much more likely to become loyal readers and listeners.

5 Become Well Connected

ConnectionsAs I suggested in point three reading other blogs about blogging is a good way to learn your art. You can also find other blogs in your niche to see what they write about. Commenting on articles you see and like helps build those connections. Don’t be afraid to reach out to other bloggers to ask questions.

As you become more connected your reach expands and so does your authority. You start to build that important equation of know like and trust.

Also follow bloggers on social media, Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms you like to use yourself.

While people blog for a multitude of reasons for an internet marketer blogging is an essential tool that makes growing your business easier overall.

Whether you want to use your blog simple to house and share content or to build your blog into your primary business income, you will be inspired, challenged and sometimes frustrated the process but you will never be bored.

LSI keywords (Latent Semantic Indexing) are basically keywords that are semantically related to your primary keyword.

Here is a definition of LSI keywords are:

“LSI keywords (also known as semantic keywords) are the related keywords to the main keyword. Many of the search engines like Google use it to decide the link between different entities of the web content.”

Contrary to popular belief,  LSI keywords are NOT just synonyms or keywords that are similar in meaning.

Using LSI keywords along with your main keywords can significantly increase your rankings in the search engines.

The LSI keywords will help Google to understand the meaning of your content so they can better match it to the intent of the searcher.

For example, the word “apple” could be in reference to the fruit, the computer company, or (and this is rather unfortunate) Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter.

So if I type “apple” into the Google search bar…

… how does it specifically know which of these I’m referring to?

The answer… LSI keywords.

LSI Graph is a great tool to help you find LSI keywords for your bog posts.

I can now sprinkle these LSI keywords throughout my blog post in an effort to help Google determine the relevancy of my content.

The better Google can understand the content and purpose of your blog posts, the better they’ll be able to index and rank them.

What does this mean for you?

When you add more LSI keywords into your blog posts they’ll rank higher and show up more frequently when people conduct a search based around that topic.

If you’ve read any of our blog posts you’ve probably seen that I’m often adding the Click To Tweet function to our posts.

Why?

Because it’s one more way to get more traffic to your blog posts.

This in turn makes it simple for your readers to share on Twitter.

You can create as many Click To Tweets as you’d like in a particular blog post.

However, I wouldn’t overdo it.

Too many of them in one blog post could end up being an annoying distraction to your reader.

Typically, I’ll have anywhere from 2-4 different Click To Tweets within a blog post, depending on how long the blog post is.

User Tip: In the past, I would simply take the title of my blog post, and use that as the sentence in my Click To Tweet. (see image above “5 Biggest Blogging Mistakes And How To Avoid Them”)

However, I’ve since found that it’s more effective to use a sentence in the context of what you were talking about.

For example, see how the actual Click To Tweet below is using more context rather than just the title of the blog post.

By using contextual sentences you’ll increase the amount of times people click on the “Click to Tweet” button and as a result, you’ll get more shares across Twitter.

5.) Share Your Content On Social Media

After I publish a new blog post, one of the first things I do to build blog traffic is to share it on Social Media.

For example, check out the image below which shows how I shared a blog post to my Facebook fan page.

Sharing your content on Social Media won’t necessarily impact SEO results.

Meaning, you won’t necessarily rank higher within the search engines like Google, Bing, or Yahoo just because you shared your content.

However, getting your content in front of as many people as possible is key.

And let’s be honest…

… people hang out on Social Media.

One of the most important things you can do is to know your Customer Avatar and know where they’re hanging out on Social Media.

So whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google +, Pinterest, the list goes on… make sure you’re getting more blog traffic by sharing your new blog posts on as many Social Media outlets as possible.

Furthermore, when you share your blog posts on Facebook for example, some people who see it will also share it themselves to their own audience or followers.

As a result, your blog posts (and your brand and offers) will now be exposed to a whole new audience that you may not have reached on your own.

Therefore, if you’d like to get more reach for your blog posts and build blog traffic, sharing them on Social Media is must.

4.) Social Sharing 

Social sharing is a great way to generate traffic to your website for free.

Plus, if you’d like to…

  • Let your visitors share your content
  • Engage with your audience by using social sharing tools
  • Expand your reach and boost blog traffic

… then I recommend you use GetSocial

There are other social sharing plugins you can try, however we’ve found GetSocial to be the one that works best for us.

Bottom line, if you want to increase traffic to your blog, using a social sharing plugin like GetSocial is a great way to accomplish that.

3.) Email Your List

Believe it or not, most people wouldn’t think to email a recently published blog post to their email subscriber list.

But if you want to know how to increase blog views… this is a heck of a way!

Due to the fact that your email subscriber list is already a “warm” audience, it makes perfect sense to make them aware of any new blog posts.

The strategy I recommend is to email your list the day after you publish a new blog post.

Why?

Because Google is all about trying to provide the best and most relevant content to their users.

If Google sees that there is a lot of activity on your blog post i.e. people spending time reading your blog post, commenting on it, and sharing it with others…

… they will as a result view it as relevant content that’s providing value to the readers.

When you notify your email subscriber list about your new blog post, there is a good chance that many people on your list will check out your new blog post and comment and share it.

Again, this kind of activity on your blog post signals to Google that this is good content and deserves to be seen.

2.) Create Compelling Curiosity Inducing Headlines

I can’t overstate the importance of creating strong, compelling, curiosity inducing headlines.

Look at it this way… your headline is the first thing your reader will see.

Write a bad headline and you risk losing your reader before they’ve even had a chance to hear what you have to say.

However, write a good headline, and you’ve hooked them at the very least into your introduction.

There are 3 main types of headlines you can write, each of them having a unique benefit.

They are:
  1. Social Proof headlines
  2. Threat headlines
  3. Gain headlines
Let’s take a quick look at each one of the headline styles.

Social Proof Headlines:

Social Proof headlines serve to leverage the fact that many other people have already done this (i.e. bought this, wear this, eat or drink this, etc)
As humans, we like to know that we’re not the only one doing something.
Social proof serves as a safety net for us and helps to ease us into moving forward with a decision or a purchase.

Threat Headlines:

There are two strong emotional triggers that are often cited for why people take action.

The threat headline capitalizes on the “move away from pain” motivating factor.

Gain Headlines: 

Opposite to Threat headlines we have Gain headlines.

In addition to people being motivated to move away from pain…

… they also want to move towards pleasure.

Gain headlines serve to fulfill our desire to get closer to pleasure.

  • How To Lose 20 lbs. Without Working Your Tail Off

As you can see, writing a good headline can make all the difference when it comes to your reader determining if the want to take the next step and dive into your content.

That’s why if you want to get more traffic to your blog posts, you should spend more time focusing on a compelling headline.

1.) Create Better Content

This may sound obvious… or perhaps even cliche.

But it’s the truth.

If you want to get more traffic to your blog posts you’ve got to write better content.

So how do you create better content?

First, write for your reader and NOT for the search engines.

If your main focus while writing is to try to please the search engines, then your blog post will likely come across as forced and unnatural.

So while on the one hand you’re writing to get more traffic to your blog…

… on the other hand, you can’t forget about your reader.

Providing valuable content and creating a good reading experience should be your main goal.

“Write for your reader, NOT for the Search Engines.”

Another way to create better content is to make your content more readable.

Yoast SEO also provides a readability analysis that will help you to see how readable your content is and if you need to make improvements on it.

I use the Yoast Readability tool as a guide to help me write content that is more readable and consumable for my audience.

Creating better content isn’t as hard as you might think, but it does take practice.

Trust me, the more blog posts you write, the better they’ll be.

Once you apply the tips I’ve provided above you’ll be able to focus less on how to get more traffic to your blog…

… and focus more on creating highly informative and interesting content.

In the year 2002, I was fortunate enough to work with a real millionaire for about 4 – 5 months. It’s always great to learn from someone that is for real to pick up some excellent pearls.
